Australian company Packer Leather has been supplying performance leathers made from high quality bovine hides and kangaroo skins for the sports industry for 35 years. In 2014 it was a finalist for the prestigious International Tannery of the Year award – marking it amongst the world’s best.
Packer also have one very famous customer known to all Aussie sport fans – they supply the leather for the official Australian Football League game ball, manufactured by the famous Sherrin footie factory in Melbourne.
People have been kicking goals for over 130 years with Sherrin footballs. In 1879 T. W. Sherrin made the first football designed specifically for Australian Rules and when the Australasian Football Council was formed, it based its measurements for the correct ball size on the standard Sherrin ball.
Today, Sherrin is responsible for supplying footballs to every AFL league and backyard alike across Australia and the globe and integrates old manufacturing techniques with state-of-the-art techniques, including Verimaster anti-counterfeit technology.
Verimaster allows a manufacturer to build a secret identification system into the product during the manufacturing process. Invisible to the naked eye and lasting the lifetime of the product, Verimaster can only be identified via a proprietary detection unit and is ideal for protecting brands or validating manufacturing processes.
Andrew Luke, Technical Director from Packer Leather explains: “The Verimaster Technology enables greater brand protection for Sherrin. They have peace of mind in knowing all of their products can be identified quickly and easily should any disputes arise about the authenticity of their footballs. Sherrin are leading their competitors by ensuring greater supply chain management and better traceability with the help of Verimaster.”
Available in masterbatch, liquid or powder forms, Verimaster anti-counterfeit technology is suitable for all polymers, paper, textiles and coatings and is low cost to add and easy to test.
