Antibacterial shelters give animal rescuers paws for thought

With over 100 animals abandoned every day, the need for cat and dog rescue kennels is increasing. Biomaster technology is helping provide a solution in some state of the art cat pens for one of the UK’s busiest animal rescue charities.

North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR) provides homes for unwanted, abused or abandoned animals in the North Wales region. As the number of abandoned animals has increased by up to 65% from 2007, like most animal charities NCAR is finding it harder to provide shelter for abandoned pets in durable, hygienic accommodation.

The rescue centre has now upgraded its existing cattery section with a new set of cages built by Shropshire company Technik, manufacturers of a wide range of standard and bespoke veterinary kennels and kennel bank systems, renowned worldwide for hygienic environment for veterinary practices, boarding businesses and catteries.

Technik’s new plastic cat pens are made using Sealwise waterproof construction board (WCB) closed-cell polymer, an easily cleanable material with inbuilt Biomaster antibacterial technology. 

Cats prefer plastics kennels because they don’t like the cold feel of metal under their paws, but it is not only cats that benefit from Biomaster protected Sealwise. The cost-effective, animal-friendly alternative to stainless steel does not harbour bacteria, is fully submersible and it is very tough and durable with all joints fully solvent welded.

Biomaster technology is proven to inhibit the growth of bacteria and works 24/7 for the lifetime of the product.

NCAR Media Relations Manager Nicky Owen comments: “we hadn’t seen this type of kennel before, and were surprised just how quiet and comfortable they were”.

Sealwise Sales Director Ben Griffiths adds: “Both Technik and ourselves have seen a spike in interest with enquiries from consumers and suppliers looking for veterinary furniture made from Sealwise WCB , so we are looking to do much more business in the sector”.
